Nahla's role continues to be a very special part of the Steps to Success story. Before her came Willow - our much loved therapy dog, whose calm presence showed us just how powerful animal-assisted support could be in helping rangatahi feel safe, connect and engage. Today, Nahla carries that legacy forward in her own way - with plenty of personality and usually a ball nearby.
We want everyone to feel comfortable and included. Here are some of the questions people often ask before Nahla joins a programme, workshop or event.
Usually, yes. Nahla loves meeting people and happily accepts gentle pats. We always follow her cues and make sure interactions are calm and respectful.
Very often. Her ball is one of her favourite things and is usually not far away.
She may sit nearby or spend quiet time with participants when it is appropriate. Her involvement is always guided by the setting, the person and Nahla’s comfort.
Absolutely. Spending time with Nahla is always optional. No one is expected to interact with her, and we can create dog-free space when needed.
Nahla is hypoallergenic and sheds very little, which can make her more suitable for people with sensitivities. However, no dog is completely allergen-free, so we still ask organisations to let us know about any allergies before the programme or event so we can plan appropriately.
Yes. Nahla is a certified pet therapy dog and her wellbeing, behaviour and suitability for each setting are always carefully considered.

Makes programmes memorable
Every programme is remembered for something. Sometimes it's a conversation. Sometimes it's a breakthrough. Sometimes.. it's the little dog who sat beside someone - exactly when they needed her most.
Whether you're planning a workshop, programme, community event or activation, we'd love to show you how our experienced team - including Nahla - can help create welcoming, engaging and meaningful experiences.
